A man who was right behind him said the words when the 38-year-old motorcyclist tried to pass between the car and the flowerbed this Monday; a traffic expert highlights the victim's irregularity in the maneuver and warns about the risks of playing on wheels.

A 38-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a car and hitting a tree in the central reservation near the intersection of João Jorge, Amoreiras and Prestes Maia avenues, in Campinas (SP) , this Monday (28).

A video made by the motorcyclist who was right behind captured the moment of the accident , when the victim was "weaving" through traffic. When he saw the man trying to pass between the car and the flowerbed, he said: "Oh, he died" - watch above.

Traffic safety expert Marcus Romaro explained that the motorcyclist's conduct was irregular and even put other people at risk.

"They were playing in traffic, and you don't play in traffic. They were weaving, and weaving is a problem. The driver [of the car] was doing it right. He tried to pass between her and the central reservation. That's illegal. He was the one who caused the accident. He even put her at risk, because she could have gotten scared, swerved and hit another vehicle," he assessed.

Romaro points out that according to the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), motorcycles must occupy the same space as a car within the lane. "The fact that weaving is completely illegal," he emphasizes.

"The motorcyclist is the most fragile, the motorcycle's bumper is the shin. As a warning, the motorcyclist cannot leave his safety in the hands of others. He has to think about taking care of himself, knowing that he is the weakest."

Romaro also warns about the need to use mandatory safety equipment correctly, such as a helmet. The impact of the crash into the tree left the motorcyclist without the accessory. "For the helmet to fly off like that, it was most likely not fastened correctly," he adds.

According to information from the Campinas Municipal Development Company (Emdec), responsible for traffic, the motorcyclist tried to overtake on the left side of the road, hit the side of the vehicle and then collided with a tree on the avenue's median.

The man died at the scene. The left lane of the avenue was closed to respond to the incident, and forensics were called. Setec was called to remove the body.

In a statement, Emdec regretted the accident and highlighted that motorcyclists are the biggest victims on urban roads.

"In the latest Monthly Death Bulletin, published by Emdec, deaths of motorcyclists or pillion riders represented 53% of the total of 49 deaths in the urban area, from January to August 2024. In the analyses carried out by the Life in Traffic Committee, excessive speed or inadequate speed appear as the main risk factor".
