An accident during a trailer race in Epazoyucan , Hidalgo, left three dead , including a 12-year-old boy, and 12 injured.
The events occurred on the afternoon of this Sunday, May 5, in the town of Santa Mónica , in an event called “Arrancones de Tractocamiones”, which was held as part of the local patron fair .
According to the Epazoyucan City Council, the required permit had not been granted for the race to take place , so the State Attorney General's Office began the corresponding investigations.
Paramedics from the Municipal Civil Protection, the Zempoala Red Cross, elements from the State Security Secretariat and Mineral de la Reforma, as well as state firefighters, arrived at the scene to treat the injured and transfer them to hospitals.
The victims were identified as AIV, 12 years old , JBA, and M. MV, 22 and 41 years old respectively.
According to the municipal government's statement, the situation "highlights the need to focus preventive efforts on local celebrations" which should "motivate participation and raise awareness among citizens, as well as the instances to avoid let them be repeated.”
Mayor Luis Antonio Montiel Castelán regretted the events and said that the necessary attention and support would be provided to the victims.
The events were recorded on video, where you can see a narrow road where the trailers ran, with people on the sides and only a small security fence on one side and without the presence of authorities.
When the tractor-trailers move at high speed and very close to each other, one of them loses control and goes to the side in the direction of the spectators.
