Boat propeller severed woman's leg in Colombia

In the afternoon hours of this Friday, September 8, the death of a tourist on the beaches of San Andrés was announced. The victim was mauled by a boat while swimming in the Haynes Cay area.

According to witnesses at the scene, the young woman was hit by the boat and one of its propellers amputated her lower extremities. The woman was taken to a hospital but she arrived without vital signs due to blood loss.

This Saturday it was learned that the deceased was identified as Yuranis Vanegas Peña, who would be a student from Cajicá, Cundinamarca, who was on vacation on the island. At this time it is unknown if she was with other people.

The governor of the archipelago, Everth Hawkins, regretted the situation and assured that they are already investigating the incident.

"Today we are very confused by the unfortunate situation that occurred in Aquarius Key, with the young 24-year-old tourist, a student from Cajicá, Cundinamarca, who was with her family hanging out on the islands and who, unfortunately, in fact, found herself In investigation, he has an accident with a boat. The captain of the boat provided him with all first aid according to the information given to me by the specific command of San Andrés, Santa Catalina, Captain Solano,” said Hawkins.

In addition, the president took the opportunity to clarify that in the coming months they hope that regulation of spas will come into operation. The governor's idea is that Haynes Cay beach, also known as 'Aquarium', is exclusively for the use of bathers.
