More than 20 inmates were beheaded and dismembered inside the Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas prison in Ecuador, according to grisly videos and reports. Videos of inmates beheaded and with their limbs severed were sent to the social media profiles of the relatives of other prisoners, this July 18, 2022. Last May, riots at the same prison left 44 inmates dead and hundreds more escaping. Authorities say this conflict is linked to two criminal gangs moving weight in the streets. Members of these organizations have been confronting each other in retaliation and over territories for drug trafficking.
