Syracuse shooting leaves one dead another injured suspects taken into custody - New York

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A shooting on September 16 left one man dead and another injured on the 400 block of Bellevue Avenue. Syracuse Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation at approximately 8:04 p.m. and found 26-year-old Jakari Townsend with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 25-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and shoulder. Both victims were taken to Upstate University Hospital, where Townsend later died. The second victim remains in stable condition.

On September 16, police identified a 17-year-old male as a suspect. He later turned himself in at the Public Safety Building with a parent or guardian on September 23 and was arrested. He has since been arraigned and remanded to the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center.

Detectives also identified David Herndon as a suspect on September 16. He was located on September 22 on the 500 block of Gifford Street and taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
