Atlacomulco, State of Mexico – On the morning of September 8, a freight train collided with a double-decker passenger bus in an industrial area along the highway between Atlacomulco and Maravatío. The bus, operated by the Herradura de Plata line, was carrying dozens of passengers, many of them domestic workers and construction laborers commuting to the capital.

The impact split the bus nearly in two, severely damaging its upper deck. At least ten people were killed and dozens more injured. Some victims were released after treatment, while others remained in serious condition. Emergency responders transported the injured to several hospitals.

Witnesses reported that the bus was slowly crossing the railway tracks amid heavy traffic just before the train arrived. The crossing reportedly lacked safety gates or sufficient lighting to warn of the oncoming train. Authorities have opened an investigation into the causes of the tragedy, focusing on the driver’s actions and the safety conditions at the railroad crossing.
