Mumbai: Heavy rains in the city on Tuesday, August 19, turned tragic for a 17-year-old youth in Bhandup. The victim, identified as **Deepak Ajay Ramalingam Pillai**, lost his life after being electrocuted while returning home through a waterlogged street.

According to reports, continuous downpour since the morning had caused severe flooding across Mumbai, bringing normal life to a halt. Around 11:30 am, Deepak was making his way home from LBS Marg towards the Pannalal Compound. He was wearing headphones and listening to music while walking.

At the same location, a high-voltage wire of Mahavitaran had snapped during the rain and fallen, electrifying the accumulated water. Police and local authorities had put up warning boards, while nearby residents also attempted to alert pedestrians about the danger.

Witnesses say that several bystanders shouted to warn Deepak, but he was unable to hear their voices because of his headphones. Unaware of the situation, he continued walking into the flooded area. The moment he stepped into the electrified water, he suffered a powerful electric shock and collapsed on the spot.

Locals rushed for help, but the teenager was declared dead instantly due to the severity of the shock. The incident has sparked concerns about safety measures during monsoons, as well as the risks of using headphones in public spaces, where situational awareness is critical.
