New Delhi — A tragic incident unfolded in Kalkaji, South Delhi, on the morning of August 14, 2025, when a large neem tree toppled onto vehicles during heavy rainfall. A 50-year-old man, Sudhir Kumar, and his 22-year-old daughter, Priya, were riding a motorcycle when the tree collapsed around 9:50 a.m. in B-Block, near Paras Chowk.

Emergency services mobilized swiftly. Fire crews and a rescue team extricated the victims using heavy machinery, and both were rushed to the Safdarjung Trauma Centre in critical condition. A person trapped inside a damaged car at the scene was also rescued safely.

At the hospital, Sudhir Kumar tragically succumbed to his injuries, while his daughter Priya is being treated for serious injuries.

The incident has intensified concerns over the city’s aging infrastructure and vulnerability to monsoon-related hazards. Authorities are expected to investigate the tree’s condition and consider preventive safety measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
