The Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has requested a report on the progress of the criminal investigation into the death of a resident of Ufa.

According to social media accounts, the victim fell onto the road after being hit by a delivery driver’s vehicle. The man had reportedly mistaken the vehicle for a taxi when he attempted to get in. Grieving family members have expressed concerns over the absence of accountability and have appealed to the head of the Investigative Committee for assistance. The delivery driver involved is currently considered a witness, and preliminary reports suggest the victim had an underlying brain condition.

The case is being investigated under the charge of involuntary manslaughter, and a forensic medical commission is conducting examinations. Penalties could include corrective labor, restriction of freedom, forced labor, or imprisonment of up to two years. The investigation has now been placed under the direct oversight of the central department of the Investigative Committee.
