What was meant to be a relaxing family vacation turned into a tragedy when 36-year-old Sagid Carreón Calderón, originally from Morelia, Michoacán, died after receiving an electric shock in the jacuzzi of his room at a resort in Ixtapa, Guerrero. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, July 22, at Pacífica Resort.

According to his wife, Estefanía, the family had reported several irregularities upon arriving at the hotel. On the night of the incident, Sagid, Estefanía, and their children entered the jacuzzi. Shortly after, Sagid began to complain of feeling electrical shocks. At first, the family thought he was joking, but when Estefanía approached the water and felt a shock herself, she urged her husband to get out.

The jacuzzi’s hydromassage system and underwater lights were on at the time. Although the system was turned off, Sagid remained standing in the water, visibly distressed. No hotel staff arrived to assist for at least 15 minutes. Estefanía asked one of their children to record what was happening to document the situation.

The footage shows Sagid clinging to a railing on the edge of the jacuzzi. As he tried to jump onto the terrace to escape, he was struck by a powerful shock. His body convulsed, and he collapsed with his hands clenched and his skin turning purple. His mother-in-law pulled him from the water, and Estefanía performed CPR while waiting for help.

Medical assistance never arrived. A lifeguard eventually appeared with a defibrillator, but the family reported that the device was not functional. Sagid died at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that he suffered an acute myocardial infarction caused by electrocution.

The family expressed concern over the hotel’s lack of immediate response. They reported that no medical help was provided, and hotel staff did not accept responsibility or offer support. It was not until six days after the incident that the resort issued a short statement acknowledging the guest’s death and stating that they were cooperating with authorities.

The Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation. However, the family's legal team claims that critical forensic procedures were not carried out. When they requested to bring in independent experts to examine the scene, access was reportedly denied.

“We are afraid they will tamper with the scene,” the family said.
