A 17-year-old teenager was killed and his 19-year-old accomplice injured during a shootout with an off-duty military police officer on Thursday morning (July 31) in the Vila Cascatinha neighborhood of São Vicente, São Paulo. The confrontation occurred after the pair attempted to steal a woman’s motorcycle.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. at the intersection of Avenida 9 de Julho and Rua Antônio Emmerich. According to the Military Police, the suspects approached a woman who was near her doorstep and tried to take her motorcycle.

Surveillance footage shows the woman getting on her motorcycle before being approached by the two suspects. She quickly got off the vehicle, and the suspect riding pillion seized control of it. An off-duty officer walking nearby witnessed the attempted robbery and intervened by opening fire.

One of the suspects, the 17-year-old, was hit and fell to the ground with the motorcycle during the attempted escape. He died at the scene. His 19-year-old accomplice was shot in the left eye and arm but was rescued conscious by emergency services and taken to Vicentino Hospital, where he remains under medical care and police supervision.

Both the Rescue Unit and a Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) ambulance responded to the scene.

The case is being investigated by the 1st Police District in São Vicente. The São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP) has not yet issued an official statement.
