A tragic accident claimed the life of a four-year-old girl who fell from the window of a 12th-floor apartment in Vasai, Maharashtra, on the evening of July 22. The heartbreaking moment, captured on a CCTV camera, occurred while the child’s mother was preparing to leave a relative’s home.

The incident took place around 8:30 p.m., when the mother, in a brief moment of distraction, placed the child on a shoe rack near an open window that lacked protective grills. As the mother tended to something nearby, the girl lost her balance and fell from the window.

Police confirmed that the child died on the spot. A case of accidental death has been registered at Naigaon Police Station.

Security footage from the apartment shows the mother stepping out of the flat briefly while speaking to someone inside. The child is seen near the shoe rack, surrounded by scattered footwear. Moments later, the mother returns, lifts the girl, and places her on top of the rack while putting on her slippers.

Unaware of the open window just behind her, the child attempts to sit on the ledge. In seconds, she loses balance and falls. A scream is heard, and a man rushes down the stairs in a panic. Neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, rush out of their homes. One woman climbs onto the same shoe rack to peer out of the window.

Authorities have not indicated any suspicion of foul play but are continuing routine procedures as part of the investigation. The incident has raised renewed concerns about high-rise safety and the need for protective window grills in residential buildings.
