EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A pair of siblings charged in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Foot Locker in Eastpointe are due back in court Friday for their preliminary examinations, nearly three months after the incident that left two people dead and others wounded.

Lakylia Taylor, 19, and her brother Dejuan Taylor, 21, were previously set to appear last month, but the hearings were postponed due to a key victim still being hospitalized and unable to attend.

According to Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, the violence erupted on May 3 around 2:50 p.m. in the parking lot of a Foot Locker store on Eight Mile Road. The Taylor siblings were reportedly involved in an argument with another group of individuals whom they knew personally. The altercation quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which Dejuan was knocked to the ground.

Lucido said that during the scuffle, someone in the opposing group was armed. In response, Lakylia allegedly ran to retrieve her own firearm and opened fire, striking multiple people. Two individuals from the group were killed, and a third was seriously injured. Dejuan also sustained injuries during the incident.

Following the gunfire, authorities allege that Dejuan took a firearm and several ammunition magazines that had fallen near one of the injured victims and fled the scene alongside his sister.

Lakylia now faces several serious charges, including second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, felony firearm possession, tampering with evidence, and carrying a concealed weapon. Dejuan is charged with tampering with evidence, firearms larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, and larceny under $200.

Both remain in custody as the investigation continues. Friday’s hearing is expected to determine whether the case will proceed to trial.
