On the morning of Tuesday, July 15, residents of Santo Estêvão, in the interior of Bahia, were startled by a disturbing scene at the municipal cemetery: the body of a woman was found outside her grave, standing upright and leaning against nearby tombstones.

A video capturing the moment—believed to have been recorded by the local gravedigger—shows the body propped against a headstone. The footage quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread shock and speculation among locals.

Authorities have yet to confirm the woman’s identity or determine how the body came to be removed from the grave. The Civil Police are investigating possible causes, including grave desecration, attempted coffin theft, or ritualistic activity.

The body was recovered and sent for further forensic examination. The cemetery administration has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
