Tragic incident on the runway at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport: man dies after being sucked into plane engine

A tragic incident occurred on the runway at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, where a man died after being sucked into the engine of a plane.

According to initial reports, the victim was neither an airport employee nor a passenger, but someone who intentionally entered the runway, reportedly with the intent to take his own life.

The man was allegedly chased by police, but they were unable to stop him as he ran toward a moving aircraft. The motives behind the act remain unknown, as does how he managed to access the runway from outside the airport premises.

SACBO, the company that manages the airport, released a statement saying:
"Flight operations at Milan Bergamo Airport were suspended from 10:20 AM to 12:00 PM due to an incident that occurred on the taxiway. The cause is currently under investigation by law enforcement."
Air traffic resumed at noon.
