Authorities in Comayagua have confirmed the drowning of a young man during Holy Week, adding to a growing number of similar incidents across the region. The victim, identified as Marlon Cantor, reportedly from the village of El Varillal, drowned while swimming in the popular Pitafina pool in the Río Grande community of Lamaní.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. However, witnesses noted that alcohol consumption in the area was high during the holiday celebrations, which may have been a contributing factor.
Cantor’s age has not yet been released, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have reported more than 10 drowning deaths during the Easter holiday period across the country.
