A Filipino tourist in Taiwan suffered injuries after stepping onto railway tracks to pose for a photo with an approaching train, authorities said.
The incident took place on Monday along Shifen Old Street, a popular tourist destination east of Taipei, local police reported.
According to Focus Taiwan, the New Taipei Fire Department received a report about the accident on Monday. Surveillance camera footage from a nearby shop captured the woman stretching her arms for a photo near Taiwan Railway Station, stepping onto the tracks for a picture with the incoming train.
The train then struck her arm, causing her to fall and sustain multiple injuries, The Straits Times reported.
Police indicated that the tourist sustained injuries to her head, chest, and pelvis. She was taken to Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for treatment, as reported by CNA.
The police said the woman had trespassed by entering the railway tracks, an offence that may carry a fine of up to US$4,140.
