CAMERON, N.Y. — Body cam and drone footage was released on Thursday by Attorney General Letitia James’s Office involving the shooting and eventual death of a Steuben County man following a 12-hour standoff back in October.
The footage comes following the death of Allan Hoad, who was shot by police after allegedly reversing his vehicle into a police cruiser at the end of a 12-hour standoff. It was reported by police that Hoad had fired a shotgun at officers at the beginning of the investigation, sparking the standoff after units were initially called to Hoad’s residence for a welfare check.
Newly released footage shows officers shooting at Hoad’s truck as it reversed out of a driveway and down a short stretch of road before ramming into a police vehicle. Bullets could be seen hitting the glass as Hoad reversed closer to the police roadblock.
The footage shows officers held their fire as Hoad’s vehicle was stopped against the police cruiser before the driver’s side door opened and Hoad stepped out. Commands were given for Hoad to stop moving and to show his hands, but one shot was fired at Hoad as he stepped out of the vehicle, causing him to fall to the ground. Hoad later died at the hospital as a result of the shooting.
