VIDEO RELEASED: Jurupa Valley, California — On June 8, 2024, at 11:12 a.m., Deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to 53rd Street and Cedar Street to check on the welfare of a male subject who appeared to be bleeding and disoriented.
Upon arrival, a deputy contacted the male at his vehicle and began to provide medical aid. While the deputy was tending to the subject's medical needs. The male pulled away, retrieved a knife, and began to stab himself.
The male then exited the vehicle and charged toward the deputy with the knife, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect, 47-year-old Espiridion Geronimo Leyva-Solis, a resident of Riverside, was struck by gunfire. Deputies rendered aid until paramedics arrived. Leyva-Solis was transported to a local hospital where he is recovering from his injuries. The knife used by Leyva-Solis was a four-inch knife with a black handle.
