A 33-year-old St Ann's man was killed as he walked into his home on Sunday morning.
Police said Nickel Morris had gone out for breakfast and had just returned home around 8 am.
Morris had locked the doors of his black Nissan Almera and was walking towards the house when a silver Wagon drove near him.
Two gunmen got out of the car and shot Morris several times, before getting back in the car and driving off.
Residents heard the gunshots and called the police.
Officers of the Port of Spain Task Force were on patrol and were called in.
A District Medical Officer was also called in who declared Morris dead at the scene.
Several spent 9-millimetre shells were also found at the scene.
Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I are continuing enquiries.
