Manaus News – A mechanic from the company Via Verde died on Monday afternoon (1), while performing maintenance on an urban public transport bus. The incident occurred near a bus station in the Compensa neighborhood, in the West Zone of Manaus.
According to witnesses, the mechanic was evaluating the vehicle's suspension when the part above the wheel fell on his head.
The worker died instantly. His colleagues called the Military Police to respond to the incident and notified the victim's family.
His body will be sent to the Forensic Medical Institute before being released to his family. The company responsible for the public bus has not yet commented.
The accident will be investigated by the Civil Police.
The Union of Passenger Transport Companies of the State of Amazonas – Sinetram and the company Via Verde Transportes Coletivos reported that they deeply regret what happened and are providing full support to the family of the employee involved in the fatality while they await the technical work of the experts who are analyzing the case.
The union also emphasizes that Via Verde, like the other companies that are part of the urban public transport system in Manaus, has strict work safety procedures and that the physical and psychological integrity of its employees and customers is one of the company's main pillars.
