A watermelon seller at Kramatjati Main Market, East Jakarta, was hacked and allegedly doused with acid.
“We received a report regarding the incident (the stabbing and throwing acid at it) at 04.00 WIB,” said Kramat Jati Police Chief Kompol Tuti Aini when confirmed, Monday (8/1/2024).
Tuti said the victim was declared dead several hours after the incident occurred.
“Yes, the victim died,” he said.
However, Tuti could not explain the chronology of the incident in detail.
“We are still investigating the motive. “Later, when we have complete data, we will release it,” he added.
In video of the incident, the victim, who was wearing a pink T-shirt, was initially standing at his kiosk.
Not long after, a man wearing a mask came to the victim’s kiosk area.
The man wearing a green sweater then poured what was thought to be acid on the victim’s head.
This is because a puff of smoke came out of the victim’s head shortly after the liquid was doused.
It didn’t stop there, the helpless victim was then hacked using a sharp sickle-type weapon.
The sickle then hit several parts of the victim’s body and stuck in his right arm.
The man in the green sweater then ran away leaving the victim when the trafficker was helpless.
