Police have advised the public to avoid the area as the fire department works to extinguish the flames.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at around 4:45 p.m. after getting reports of possible shots fired. But the explosion didn't happen until about 8:30 p.m.
Area residents were told to shelter in place while police surveyed the scene.
