At least eight people have been injured after a Palestinian man rammed his vehicle into a crowded bus stop in Israel and then carried out a stabbing rampage.

The 20-year-old assailant, from the occupied West Bank, was shot and killed by an armed civilian in the city of Tel Aviv, said police.

At least five people were in a serious condition, said the two hospitals treating them. mages and video from the scene showed a pick-up truck that had mounted a pavement near a mall and crashed into the bus stop.

"[The suspect] proceeded to get out of the vehicle to stab civilians with a sharp object," police said.

Khaled Al-Batsh, a senior official from the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad movement, praised the attack as "an initial and natural response of the resistance towards what is happening in Jenin".
