A man remains in custody this morning (Tuesday, August 27) following the attack.
Shortly before 7.30pm yesterday police were called with a report a man had been assaulted and suffered multiple stab wounds.
Emergency services attended and a man aged in his thirties was taken by the ambulance service to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
A second man was found to have suffered an injury to his arm during the incident which also required hospital treatment. He has since been discharged from hospital.
A man aged in his 20s was arrested last night by armed police on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police cordons and road closures were put in place at the scene and they will remain until further notice today while an investigation continues.
'Many of you will be aware of the incident that took place in Barton Street yesterday evening which involved two men being stabbed. We are carrying out an attempted murder investigation in connection with this,' said Det Chief Insp Smith
'Shortly after the attack a member of the public shared with us some mobile phone footage of attack, this will now form part of our investigation and prosecution case.'
