An 18-year-old murder suspect died after being assaulted inside the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond, Mississippi, USA, prompting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to the Hinds County Coroner, Mielun Butler died from blunt force trauma after being repeatedly stomped inside the jail. An autopsy reportedly revealed multiple shoe-print impressions on his head, indicating he suffered a sustained assault.

Butler had been booked into the detention centre on July 1 on a murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man in Jackson. Two days later, jail staff found him unresponsive.
