A suspected armed robber was shot and killed after allegedly attempting to rob a retired federal police officer outside his home in Gerli, Avellaneda, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.

According to investigators, the 71-year-old retired officer was arriving home with his partner when they were approached by two armed suspects on a motorcycle. Police said the pair attempted to rob the couple before one of the suspects threatened the retired officer with a firearm.

The retired officer, who was legally carrying a handgun, drew his weapon and exchanged gunfire with the suspects. One of the alleged robbers was struck during the confrontation and died at the scene, while the second suspect fled before officers arrived.

Emergency services responded to the incident, and police secured the area while forensic investigators examined the scene. Authorities recovered evidence at the location and launched an investigation into the attempted robbery and the fatal shooting.

The retired officer is cooperating with investigators, who are treating the incident as a case of self-defence while the circumstances surrounding the confrontation continue to be reviewed.
