Two women were killed and at least 22 other people were injured after a public bus crashed into a concrete pillar near Agualva-Cacém railway station in Sintra, Portugal.

According to emergency services, the Carris Metropolitana bus failed to stop as it approached a bus stop, striking two women before colliding with a support pillar inside a tunnel. Both women died at the scene.

The remaining victims were passengers travelling on the bus. Most sustained minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, while several others received psychological support.

Police, firefighters and medical teams responded to the scene, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Video recorded shortly after the collision shows the heavily damaged bus inside the tunnel as emergency crews worked at the scene.
