A labourer identified as Zeeshan, from Gujranwala, Pakistan, died after setting himself on fire in an apparent act of self-immolation.

According to reports, Zeeshan alleged that he had repeatedly been denied his full wages, claiming that his contractor withheld 21,000 Pakistani rupees from his salary each month. He also reportedly said his family was struggling financially and that his children were going hungry.

Reports further allege that after demanding the wages he believed he was owed, Zeeshan was subjected to mistreatment and dismissed from his job.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the allegations regarding unpaid wages and workplace abuse have not yet been officially confirmed.
