A Pakistan Air Force training aircraft crashed near the city of Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, killing both pilots on board, according to the military’s media wing.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the aircraft was conducting a routine training mission when it went down. The two pilots killed in the crash were identified as Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah of the Pakistan Air Force and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi of the Pakistan Navy.

The ISPR stated that Air Headquarters has convened a board of inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.

Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with the heads of the armed services and military personnel, expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and paid tribute to the pilots.

The crash occurred just days after another fatal military aviation accident. On Wednesday, a Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad during take-off following what officials described as a technical malfunction.

According to the ISPR, all personnel on board the helicopter were killed, and no survivors were reported. A separate board of inquiry has been established to investigate the exact cause of that accident.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents.
