LAHORE, Pakistan — Police have registered a case against a contractor following an incident in which a young girl fell into an uncovered manhole in the Baghbanpura area of Lahore.

According to local authorities, the case was filed at Baghbanpura Police Station on the complaint of a Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) sub-engineer. The incident occurred in Union Council 134, Ali Park Bazaar, where development work was underway.

The investigation found that a private contractor was responsible for installing sewerage and water supply pipelines as part of the project. The contractor was also tasked with ensuring that manholes in the area were properly covered and secured.

Authorities stated that the girl fell into an open manhole in the Chora Bazaar area after safety measures were allegedly not maintained. Local residents intervened and successfully rescued her before emergency responders arrived.

Officials have attributed the incident to alleged negligence during the ongoing construction work and have initiated legal proceedings against the contractor.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are reviewing whether additional safety violations occurred at the site.
