At least three people were killed and several others were injured after a truck lost its brakes and crashed into pedestrians, vehicles, and a church in the Amparo district of Nova Friburgo, Brazil.

The accident occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. on the RJ-150 highway near the Parada Folly area. According to preliminary reports, the truck was descending a steep and winding section of the road when the driver lost control.

The vehicle struck pedestrians, several cars, and the façade of the Deus é Amor evangelical church before overturning at the roadside.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, ambulances, and security forces, were dispatched to the scene. Authorities said multiple people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In a later update, the truck driver died from his injuries, bringing the death toll to four.

Traffic on the RJ-150 was reduced to a single alternating lane while rescue teams worked at the site and investigators began examining the cause of the crash.
