At least eight construction workers were killed and 12 others injured after a pickup truck carrying laborers collided head-on with a truck in Sylhet, northeastern Bangladesh.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on May 3, 2026, in the Telibazar area of South Surma Upazila. The pickup truck was transporting around 20 workers and construction equipment from Sylhet’s Ambarkhana area to Lalabazar for a concrete casting job when it crashed into a truck loaded with jackfruit.

The impact threw passengers from the pickup, causing multiple fatalities at the scene.

All of the deceased were construction workers from various districts, including Sunamganj and Sylhet. Their bodies were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for identification and post-mortem examinations.

Police have seized both vehicles and launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.

Relatives of the victims gathered at the hospital morgue, where family members identified the dead. Among the victims were two brothers who had worked as construction laborers in Sylhet for nearly a decade.

Authorities continue to collect details about the victims and assess the circumstances surrounding the crash.
