A 32-year-old worker died after being buried under a mound of soil while repairing a leaking water pipeline in Aligarh, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, the incident occurred on Railway Road, where a pit had been dug to carry out repair work on an underground pipeline. While the worker was inside the trench, a section of soil suddenly collapsed, trapping him beneath debris and water.

Colleagues at the site immediately attempted a rescue and used machinery to remove the soil and pull him out. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to the severity of his injuries.

Authorities stated that construction and pipeline repair work in the area was being conducted under municipal supervision. A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances of the incident and determine whether any negligence was involved.

Government officials have also announced financial compensation for the victim’s family, while emphasizing the need for stricter safety measures at construction and repair sites to prevent similar accidents in the future.
