Two individuals were shot and killed in broad daylight in the city of Trujillo, Peru, in what appears to be a targeted attack carried out by hired gunmen.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in the San Isidro neighborhood, specifically on the fifth block of Bronce Street. According to surveillance footage from the area, the victims were inside a parked vehicle, engaged in conversation, when a white pickup truck approached and stopped beside them.

Armed assailants exited the vehicle and opened fire on the victims. In an attempt to escape, both individuals got out of the car and tried to flee. One of them collapsed near the passenger-side door after being shot, while the other managed to run about 10 meters before being struck by gunfire and seriously wounded.

After firing approximately eight shots, the attackers briefly fled the scene. However, upon realizing that one of the victims was still alive, they returned moments later and fatally shot him at close range.

Witnesses reported that the victims were local residents who had been waiting for relatives when they were ambushed. Authorities from the police emergency unit and the Public Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the scene to conduct investigations and arrange for the removal of the bodies to the local morgue.

This double homicide is part of an ongoing wave of violence in the La Libertad region, where at least 57 murders have been recorded so far this year. Despite recent efforts by law enforcement, including the deployment of joint police and military task forces, criminal activity continues to pose a serious threat to public safety in Trujillo.
