A 22-year-old Venezuelan motorcyclist died after colliding with a road barrier made of cones and a metal chain in Cuiabá, in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The incident occurred on March 28 and is under investigation by local authorities.

According to reports, the victim, identified as José Antônio Sabino Herrera, was riding along Avenida Desembargador Carlos Avalone in the city’s administrative district when he encountered a section of road that had been closed to traffic.

The area had been blocked using cones and a chain stretched across the roadway. Authorities believe the chain was difficult to see, and the rider did not brake or attempt to avoid it before impact.

Upon hitting the barrier, the motorcyclist was struck in the neck and thrown from the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The road closure was reportedly in place for leisure activities during the weekend. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of using chains or cables as barriers without adequate visibility measures.

Police are investigating whether there was any negligence in the placement and signaling of the barrier.
