A devastating road accident at the Casablanca toll booth, on the Zipaquirá–Ubaté highway in Colombia, left five people dead, including members of the same family, after a truck reportedly lost its brakes and crashed into multiple vehicles.

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 1, 2026, when a tanker truck carrying milk lost control and plowed into a line of vehicles waiting at the toll. The collision triggered a powerful explosion and fire, engulfing several cars.

Among the victims was an entire family traveling together in a single vehicle. They were on their way to visit a relative when the crash occurred. Their car was positioned at the front of the toll line when it was struck directly by the out-of-control truck, leading to their deaths at the scene.

The impact and subsequent fire resulted in multiple vehicles being destroyed, with at least 12 cars severely damaged and several completely burned. In addition to the fatalities, more than 20 people were injured and taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Authorities reported that the truck had shown signs of mechanical failure prior to the crash, with early investigations pointing to brake failure or loss of control as the likely cause. The driver reportedly attempted to manage the vehicle but was unable to prevent the collision.

Emergency responders worked to contain the fire and assist victims, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragedy has deeply affected local communities, as the victims were described as a close-knit family traveling to reunite with loved ones. The case remains under investigation.
