According to reports, the incident happened Sunday in the village of Kashungurhi in the Mudaka commune, north of the city of Bukavu.

Residents accused the unidentified man of using supernatural means to steal the genital organ of a villager — a phenomenon that has sparked panic and mob violence in several parts of the region.

Local sources say the suspect was captured by villagers and severely tortured. During the assault, he allegedly returned the victim’s organ, but the accused man died from the injuries inflicted by the crowd.

Authorities said the man was carrying a voter identification card, though the writing on it was reportedly unreadable, making it difficult to confirm his identity.

Civil society leaders in Mudaka condemned the killing and warned residents against taking justice into their own hands, urging people to rely on legal authorities instead.

Reports say similar accusations involving alleged genital “disappearances” have surfaced in multiple provinces in southeastern Congo since the start of 2026, with several people killed in mob attacks tied to the rumors.
