A suspected hitman was killed after attempting to attack a bodyguard from Colombia’s National Protection Unit (UNP) in the northern part of Cali, Colombia.

The incident occurred in the Los Almendros neighborhood, near the intersection of Carrera 1J and Calle 59. According to reports and security camera footage circulating on social media, the attacker approached a vehicle where the UNP bodyguard had just entered.

Authorities say the suspect attempted to intimidate the bodyguard with a firearm, apparently intending to carry out an assassination. The bodyguard immediately reacted and fired multiple shots in response, striking the attacker.

The suspected assailant collapsed on the street with severe injuries and died at the scene shortly afterward. Police later confirmed that the deceased was a young Venezuelan national who, according to initial checks, did not have a prior criminal record.

Officials from the UNP stated that the bodyguard had been the target of an attempted killing and acted to repel the attack. Authorities are now reviewing the circumstances of the shooting to determine whether the bodyguard’s actions fall under legitimate self-defense.

Investigators are also examining security footage and gathering evidence to determine whether other individuals may have been involved in the attempted attack.
