Store owner and local tourist attraction proprietor shot dead inside his shop - Ecuador

The owner of the well-known tourist attraction “Las Cascadas de Manuel” was shot and killed inside a store on the night of Tuesday, February 24, in El Guabo canton, in Ecuador’s El Oro province. The victim was identified as 63-year-old Manuel Benjamín Cabrera Yánez, a recognized businessman in the community.

According to preliminary reports from relatives and witnesses, a man arriving on a motorcycle entered the premises and went into a small shop connected to the attraction. After appearing to approach as a customer, the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at close range before fleeing the scene.

Police and emergency responders arrived shortly afterward and confirmed that Cabrera Yánez died at the location due to his injuries. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and collecting statements from witnesses as they work to identify the assailant and clarify the circumstances of the attack.

Authorities have not yet announced a motive or reported any arrests. The investigation remains ongoing.
