CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A grieving father attacked the man accused of killing his 16-year-old son inside a courthouse hallway, with the violent confrontation captured on video.

The incident happened Thursday at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse when 47-year-old Shaheem Snype allegedly lunged at 21-year-old Marion McKnight, who is currently out on bond in connection with the fatal shooting of Snype’s son, Jamariyae Dixon.

Video from inside the courthouse shows Snype charging at McKnight and unleashing a series of punches and kicks before a deputy intervened and used a Taser to stop the attack.

McKnight was transported to a hospital following the assault. Snype was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury but was released hours later after posting a $1,000 bond.

The confrontation comes months after Dixon was shot during an incident on May 23, 2025, in Charlotte. Police said officers found three victims with gunshot wounds at the scene. Dixon later died from his injuries.

McKnight was identified as a suspect, charged with murder, and later released on a $100,000 bond — a decision that has drawn criticism from the victim’s family.

Relatives said emotions boiled over when Snype unexpectedly came face to face with McKnight at the courthouse.

“Any father would’ve did the same thing. We’re still grieving. This is a wound that will never ever close because my nephew was 16 years old, and he should still be here with us.”

Authorities have not announced any additional charges, and the investigation into the courthouse incident remains ongoing.
