A miner identified as Ronildo Pereira was shot and killed during the hijacking of a small aircraft in Itaituba, Pará. The incident began when two passengers announced a robbery mid-flight and overpowered the other occupants, including the pilot and two women who were also on board.

The aircraft had departed from the Crepurizão community in Pará and was en route to the city of Itaituba. As the plane approached its destination, the assailants shot Pereira and forced the pilot to land in the community of Pista do Peralta, near the BR-230 Trans-Amazonian Highway. The remaining passengers were restrained during the landing.

After landing, the suspects fled with a briefcase containing an estimated 10 to 12 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately $1.6 million to $1.9 million USD at today’s prices.
