MILWAUKEE, WI — On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 4:49 p.m., officers with the Milwaukee Police Department conducted a traffic stop near Fond du Lac Avenue and West Locust Street for a registration violation.

Although the vehicle initially stopped, the driver fled during the encounter, prompting a pursuit for reckless driving. During the chase, a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. That individual was later taken into custody.

The vehicle pursuit concluded in the 9800 block of West Lisbon Avenue when the driver stopped, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot. During the ensuing foot pursuit, officers observed the suspect armed with a firearm. Officers issued multiple commands instructing him to drop the weapon. When the suspect failed to comply, officers discharged their firearms, striking him. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The suspect, identified as a 38-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

The two officers who discharged their weapons — a 46-year-old officer with more than 10 years of service and a 40-year-old officer with over eight years of service — have been placed on administrative duty, in accordance with department policy for officer-involved shootings.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is conducting the investigation, with the Brookfield Police Department serving as the lead agency.

Under the Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy, Standard Operating Procedure 575, video footage capturing officer-involved incidents resulting in death or serious bodily harm is subject to public release. The policy is designed to balance transparency and accountability with the integrity of ongoing investigations and the privacy rights of those involved. The department states that it aims to release relevant video within 15 days of the incident.
