FREEHOLD, New Jersey — A mother and her two young sons were struck by an out-of-control SUV outside a preschool Friday afternoon, leaving the family injured and a driver facing DWI charges.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. outside Bloom Academy as Patrice Pisani and her children exited the building and walked toward their vehicle. Surveillance video shows a gray SUV approaching the entrance area as the family steps outside.

Footage shows Pisani grabbing her older son with one hand and reaching toward her younger child as the SUV slams into them. The impact knocks Pisani and her youngest son to the ground.

Video also shows the SUV’s tire rolling over the younger boy’s leg, knocking off his shoe. He was taken for treatment for a leg injury and burns caused by contact with the vehicle’s undercarriage, according to his mother.

Pisani suffered back and neck injuries.

Witnesses and staff members rushed outside moments after the crash to assist the family.

Police say the driver, identified as another parent picking up a child, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Authorities have not released additional details.

The SUV also struck a column near the preschool’s entrance and damaged a plastic railing leading to the building.

Bloom Academy said in a statement that while the injuries were not more severe, the school remains focused on the safety of its students and families.

The incident remains under investigation.
