A case of child abuse has been publicly reported in Condorcanqui, in the Amazonas region, after a video circulated showing a mother physically assaulting her own child.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday, 16 February, in the area of Sawi Entsa, within the Puente Nieva sector of Peru.

According to relatives of the child, the woman identified as Luisa Tuists Takayit is alleged to have carried out the physical abuse. The incident was recorded by the child’s younger sister, and the footage has sparked outrage among local residents.

Those who reported the case stated that acts of violence like this can seriously affect a child’s emotional and psychological development and are not an appropriate form of discipline.

Information obtained also indicates that the children’s father was unaware of what had been happening in the home while he was away.

At times, cases such as this are reported publicly to raise awareness and help protect other children who may be facing similar situations. In Peru, suspected child abuse can be reported by calling Línea 100, a free and confidential 24-hour helpline operated by the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations.
