An auto-rickshaw driver named Rony remains unconscious two days after being brutally attacked by a man posing as a passenger in Khulna, Bangladesh.

The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, February 3, when Rony left a garage in the Khalishpur area with a passenger who asked to be taken to the Mirzapur Crossroad area. Upon reaching a secluded location, the passenger allegedly struck Rony multiple times on the head with a hammer before stealing the auto-rickshaw and fleeing the scene.

Local residents found Rony in critical condition and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. He was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he underwent head surgery on February 4. As of the latest update, he has not regained consciousness and remains in critical condition due to severe head injuries.

Rony’s wife said he is the sole provider for their family and had recently purchased the auto-rickshaw through a loan. The theft has left the family facing serious financial hardship.

Police have begun investigating the case and are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Authorities believe the attack was a planned robbery.
