An armed attack during a New Year’s gathering in Tumbes, Peru left one person dead and two others injured.

The incident occurred late on January 1, 2026, in the settlement of Andrés Araujo Morán, where a group of people were celebrating the arrival of the new year at a private residence. Two individuals on a motorcycle suddenly arrived and opened fire on those present.

One of the victims, identified as Pedro Francisco Salvador Julcahuanca, an artisanal fisherman, was struck by gunfire to the head and leg and died at the scene. Two other people, including the owner of the house, were injured and taken to Hospital José Alfredo Mendoza Olavarría, where they remain under medical care.

The attack was captured by security cameras at the home. Family members of the deceased are demanding justice, saying the victim had not received any prior threats and was not the intended target.

Authorities have not released further details on suspects or motives as the investigation continues.
