On December 19, 2025, a severe traffic accident occurred on the Buga–Buenaventura road in the Valle del Cauca region of Colombia. A heavy truck that reportedly experienced brake failure collided with a family’s vehicle that was stopped in congested traffic. The impact destroyed the car and caused the deaths of both parents, who were inside at the time.

A young boy who had briefly exited the vehicle to use the roadside was not inside the car at the moment of the collision and survived the crash. Another child who remained in the vehicle was also rescued alive by emergency responders.

Images from the scene showing the surviving child in shock have drawn national attention, highlighting the human toll of the accident and prompting widespread expressions of sympathy. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and assess factors that may have contributed to the truck’s inability to stop.

The tragedy has sparked discussion about road safety on one of the region’s major transport routes, where heavy commercial vehicles and passenger cars frequently share the same corridors.
