Security camera footage has been released showing the moment when Mario Pineida, a professional footballer for Barcelona Sporting Club of Ecuador, was fatally shot during a targeted attack in Guayaquil. The video shows two armed men arriving on a motorcycle, entering a butcher shop, and opening fire on Pineida and a woman who was with him.

The woman was identified as Guisella Fernández, a 39-year-old Peruvian national, who was also killed in the attack. Initial reports caused confusion about her identity, but Pineida’s partner, Ana Aguilar, the mother of his three children, later confirmed that she survived the incident and asked for privacy and respect. Pineida’s mother was also present during the attack and suffered a minor head injury; she received medical treatment and is now in stable condition.

Emergency services reported that the shooting occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. local time while Pineida was shopping with his companions. Police said the attackers intercepted the player outside the shop and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Authorities stated there is no indication that robbery was the motive and believe the killing was deliberate and premeditated.

The death of Pineida has deeply affected the football community in Ecuador and across South America. Several clubs and former teammates expressed their condolences and paid tribute to his career, including Fluminense Football Club in Brazil, where Pineida played in 2022.

Ecuadorian football clubs also issued statements mourning his death and offering support to his family and to Barcelona SC. Pineida had an extensive professional career, making more than 220 appearances for Barcelona SC, scoring goals, providing assists, and helping the club reach the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores.

The case has renewed public concern over rising violent crime in Ecuador, as authorities continue their investigation into the attack and search for those responsible.
