Speeding car mows down pedestrians and dog in Patna; one dead, five injured - India

A speeding car lost control and ran over multiple pedestrians on Jhakdi Mahadev Road near Gola in Danapur, Patna, killing one man and injuring five others. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Chansi Rai.

CCTV footage shows the car entering from the wrong side and striking four people before briefly stopping. A man became trapped beneath the front wheel. Moments later, the driver accelerated again, running over the victim for a second time. As bystanders attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, running over additional people while fleeing.

Witnesses said the car was traveling at an estimated 60–70 kmph at the time of the incident. The footage also shows a dog being hit and severely injured moments before the collision with the pedestrians.

The victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. Rai was initially taken to the Military Hospital and later transferred to a private hospital in Raja Bazar, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have reviewed local CCTV and are tracking the route taken by the vehicle as investigations continue to identify and apprehend the absconding driver.
